Arrays



To begin our multiplication unit, we created arrays with beans to show an arrangement of rows and columns.

Estimation



Estimating how many cups of rice and beans will it take to fill the cups. To their surprise they took almost the same amount of scoops, when many predicted that it would take several more scoops of rice.

Energy Cars!




We created engergy cars to discuss potential and kinetic energy and came to the conlcusion that the more stored potential engery the farther the car would go.

Context Clues

We have been using our context clues to determine unfamiliar vocabulary words!

Force and Friction




Students tested different objects to see how quickely they fell down the ramp on different surfaces (sand paper, wax paper, and slick tray surface) Students then measured the height of the ramp as the pbject fell. Great experiment to see how friction played a role!

Welcome Back!

After a nice summer break, our class blog is back up and running! Hope everyone has had a very enjoable summer break. I am looking forward to starting the new year and meeting each my new smiling students! Earth Day!




Mrs. Wanda from Soil Conservation graciously donated a tree for fourth grade to plant in honor of Earth Day! Students helped dig the hole, plant the tree, and water it. We also discussed the characteristics of living things and what they need in order to survive.

Living Things!

For Hands-on Day we rotated through centers dicussing animal adaptations, cleaning our bird feathers from oil, and discussing ther reason behind different bird beaks and their uses.

Famous Americans in History

Students chose a famous person in history to research. We used print sources and non-print sources. Students also included text features to their display such as graphics, captions, and a timeline. They also wrote a biography of their person after researching. They did such a wonderful job! I love them all!

Circuits!

We created simple series circuits with a power source, conductor, and load. Students were giving the materials and asked to light the bulb. After several trial and error sessions, students were able to figure out how to create the closed circuit so electrons can flow in a complete path!



Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Box Winners-1st Caitlyn (toliet), 2nd Annslie (hot air balloon), 3rd Corbin (basketball goal) Very creative!!

M&M Fractions!


Students used M&M to create fractions of each color. Then we took it an extra step and they had to create an equivalent fraction to match the original fraction! The we enjoyed our yummy chocolate!

Duck Dynasty Day!


We really enjoyed Duck Dynasty Hands-On day. Students dressed up and completed several realating projects! One included reading parts of a Duck Dynasty Article and stating facts, asking questions, making connections, and adding their responses to the article. Great close reading strategy!

Fraction Strips!


Students created their own fraction strips and used them to compare!

Weather Instruments!


Students enjoyed our weather unit. We discussed weather patterns, instruments, and reading weather maps and radars. Students got to be a Metorologist and explain today's weeather forcast and created weather instruments as an end of the unit project!

Clouds, Clouds, Big Puffy Clouds!


Students created the 4 main types of clouds out of cotton balls placing them on construction paper showing which clouds were high, low, and in the middle. We discussed cumulus, cirrus, stratus, and cumulonimbus.

Natural Disasters

Students researched natural diasters using non-fiction books from the library. They created a poster that contained facts and presented them to the class!

Voting for President!

We held an election to vote for President. Students wrote a campaign speech and created a campaign solgan. Caitlyn Patterson was named Class President after the big election!

Soil, Weathering, & Erosion

Discussing the three types of soil (humus, sand, and clay) Which will grow the best plant?

Erosion and weathering experiment using water (spray bottle) and wind (blowing through a straw). We were able to see how wind and water can cause weathering and erosion to our clay mountain!
