Does it Dissolve?

Today, we put sugar, sand, salt, and baking soda each into seperate clear cups of water. The sugar and salt dissolved the best, which are the most soluable and sand did not dissolve at all, which has zero solubility. The water pulls apart the salt and sugar particles allowing them to dissolve better.

Fact and Opinion!

Today, we played a fact and opinion game from the Florida Center for Reading Research website. They rolled dice and landed on fact and opinion statements around the board. They had to read the statement and state whether it was a fact or opinion.

Solid, Liquid, Gas!

This week we did an experiment. We put Alka-Seltzer in a small plastic container filled with water and it produced a gas and popped the lid off! The Alka-Seltzer is solid, water a liquid and we watched it fizz producing a gas!

Pumping up the Details

We were pumping up balloons and writing sentences at the same time. Our class had to add details to a sentence and blow up the balloon a little each time after adding a detail. In the end, we compared the deflated balloon and sentence to the nice inflated balloon and sentence with details. Great illustration!!

Egg Drop Experiment

We started off with a mini-egg drop experiment in class to get the students excited about Science! Students had to knock the index card off the cup and get the penny safely in the cup.

Next, we conducted the egg drop experiment and discussed how inertia and gravity help play a part in the egg landing safely in the cup!
